Kyle Hunter
PhD Candidate

Researcher biography
My name is Kyle Hunter and I am a PhD student in the School of Psychology at the University of Queensland.
My research investigates costly rituals and examines whether costly signalling—the act of sacrificing resources to demonstrate commitment—is amplified within ritual contexts. Using developmental methods, I explore how children perceive individuals who engage in costly rituals, and how these perceptions vary across factors such as group identity, ritual costliness, and religious association. This work contributes to broader questions about the cultural functions of costly rituals, particularly their roles in fostering group cohesion and cooperation.
