My name is Shalini Gautam and I’m a lecturer in the School of Psychology. My research explores the cognitive foundations of children’s social understanding. How do children learn about the social implications of their behaviour and make sense of the way other people act? Integral to the work I do is the question of generalizability and variability across diverse cultures. Specifically, I explore how, in addition to cognitive development, culture also influences the ways in which children engage with their social world.
