Researcher biography

My name is Shalini Gautam and I am a PhD candidate in the School of Psychology and the Early Cognitive Development Centre at UQ.

During my PhD I will be investigating the development of decision making capacities in young children. As adults, we tend to take many aspects of our decision making processes for granted, such as being able to consider multiple possibilities in the future, or remember the past and think about how it might have been better (or worse). However, young children are not born with these capacities. I’m particularly interested in how being able to consider the past and future influences the choices children make, and the feelings they experience.
