Dr Kristy Armitage

My name is Kristy Armitage and I’m a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the School of Psychology at UQ.

I’m interested in the development of metacognition, creativity in problem-solving, and cognitive offloading. To date, my research has primarily focused on how children think and act in the face of cognitive problems, revealing important insights into children’s awareness of their cognitive limits, and the flexible and creative strategies they devise to surpass such limits. I’m also interested in the more applied question of children’s exposure to and use of digital “thinking tools”, like computers, smartphones, and tablets, and whether there are cognitive consequences of growing up in the digital age.
