Researcher biography

My name is Natasha Anderson. I am a PhD student in the School of Psychology at the University of Queensland.

My research focuses on the cognitive faculties underpinning the capacity to delay gratification and orientate towards long-term goals.  I am interested in how people reason about opposing inter-temporal reward options, their respective risks, and their mutual exclusivity. I am also interested in the influence of goal-motivation, behavioural inhibition, and the capacity to predict and prepare for future preference reversals in the face of temptation. Broadly speaking, my research is centred around understanding what ‘self-control’ means and whether it can be accurately measured and or strengthened.  If you’d like to get in touch, you can reach me at n.anderson@uq.net.au
